Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Dublin (Hybrid)
We are currently seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing team delivering innovative low-carbon and decarbonisation solutions across Ireland, the UK, and Europe.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level engineer with a strong background in M&E Building Services Design to take on a leadership role within a forward-thinking organisation at the forefront of sustainable energy solutions.
The Role
Based in Dublin, you will lead mechanical design projects from concept through to commissioning, working across a wide range of commercial and public sector developments.
You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and play a key role in mentoring engineers while helping shape best practice within the design function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of mechanical design projects within the building services sector
- Produce detailed designs including schematics, calculations, plant selection, and specifications
- Develop and review BMS control strategies
- Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and technical assessments
- Coordinate with project, fabrication, and commissioning teams
- Ensure compliance with all relevant standards and regulations
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers
- Support and mentor junior engineers
Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in M&E / Building Services Design
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards) preferred
- Strong experience in heating systems (LTHW, MTHW, steam)
- Proven ability to manage projects and deliver high-quality design solutions
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable Experience
- Low-carbon technologies and decarbonisation projects
- Heat pumps, district heating, or renewable systems
- AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM tools
- Energy modelling or simulation software
Salary & Benefits
- €80,000 - €90,000 (depending on experience)

Working Pattern
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Friday: 8:00am - 3:00pm
- Hybrid working available (1-2 days from home once established in the role)
