The Job
The Head of Data Science & Investigative Analytics (Principal Officer) will assist the Head of Data Architecture in deploying and extending the overarching Data Strategy and relevant Data Policies (e.g. Data Management, Data Security) for the organisation while promoting the adoption of best-in-class solutions and best practices in Data Science and Investigative analytics as the lead Data Scientist within the unit.


Leveraging on personal know-how and expertise as well as knowledge of other members of the Data Architecture function, the Head of Data Science & Investigative Analytics will manage the pre-production phase of engagements with business, ICT and GSAS units. The range of activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement, support and improve data modelling, search and ingestion to assist investigations and frontline policing (pre-production stage).
  • Re-design or support implementation of a-new solutions enabling advanced data and AI capabilities (from automatic classification systems for criminal case labelling to advanced search capabilities for multimedia data - e.g. audio, still images, video).
  • Spearhead data-driven initiatives with other Public Sector Bodies (PSBs) providing expert know-how on data normalisation, modelling and exchange

Along with the other Data Scientists within the Data Architecture Unit, the Head of Data Science & Investigative Analytics provides overarching support in:

  • Identifying valuable data sources, automating collection processes of external data (e.g. not within ICT systems), assessing data accuracy and consistency.
  • Undertaking pre-processing of structured and unstructured data, creating custom data models and algorithms.
  • Streamline analysis of complex and large volume of data.
  • Implementing pre-production data pipelines and solutions in an agile manner.
