Staffline has been appointed as HSCNI's number 1 recruitment provider for Admin and Clerical roles throughout the province.

Band 6 Peripatetic Occupational Therapist required on a temporary basis based in Coleraine.

Role: Band 6 Peripatetic Occupational Therapist

Rate of Pay: £18.10

Location: Coleraine

Hours: 22.5 hours

Duration: Temporary Ongoing

KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a defined caseload of patients and be responsible for prioritising workload in line with agreed Trust priorities, policies and procedures.
  • Undertake comprehensive, client centred occupational therapy assessment and treatment of patients presenting with arrange of clinical conditions including neurological conditions/complex needs.
  • Select, apply and interpret of a range of standardised and non-standardised assessments to identify deficits in functional performance.
  • Appropriately select and use a range of treatment media, which reflects the outcome of assessments and identified goals.
  • Assess for the provision of splints, fabricating individual splints as required.
  • Offer professional support and advice to patients/carers in relation to the occupational therapy intervention and general management of their condition.
  • Identify and provide appropriate assistive aids and / or adaptations where an assessed need has been identified. This may include provision of specialised items within agreed frameworks and ensuring that patients/carers receive instruction on use, paying particular attention to safe moving and handling practice.
  • Make recommendations within agreed frameworks in respect of minor housing adaptations and ensure these are completed in a satisfactory manner.
  • Ensure effective communication with other professionals, both formally and informally.
  • Liaise with referral agents to ensure clients enter the service appropriately and seek any necessary background information.
  • At all times, maintain confidentiality with regards to patients/carers.
  • Maintain treatment records and statistical data and carry out administrative procedures in accordance with departmental practice including RDS IT system for wheelchair prescription.
  • Contribute to and participate in, in-service training programmes, practice development groups, professional talks and lectures.
  • Allocate and supervise the work of junior and support staff as appropriate including formal supervision.
  • Be responsible for the training, evaluation and supervision of Occupational Therapy students.
  • Attend relevant lectures, courses and maintain links with special interest groups to update and further develop professional competence and promote evidence based practice. This will include keeping a CPD record.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures and guidelines concerning the management and day to day running of the OT department.
  • Be responsible for the use and care of department/equipment.
  • Contribute to the formulation of specific policies, procedures and guidelines in relation to specific area of clinical practice.
  • Participate in research and monitoring and audit of clinical practice and procedures.
  • Monitor the quality of work in own area and bring to the attention of Clinical Lead/Service Lead concerns regarding quality.
  • Safeguard the welfare of both patients and staff as outlined in the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978 and subsequent legislation.
  • Participate in evening, weekend and bank holiday rota.
  • Adhere to College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and Professional Standards for Occupational Therapy Practice.
  • Participate in the selection and recruitment of staff in accordance with Trust procedures.
  • Actively participate in the development of the Occupational Therapy Service within the trust.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by senior officers.

Essential Criteria:

  • 2 years post qualifying experience in Occupational Therapy
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy

  • HCPC Registration on application
