Job Title: Anaesthetic Staff Nurse
Department: Anaesthesia
Reports to: Clinical Coordinator Anaesthesia
Location: Dublin
Job Type: Full-Time

Overall Purpose of Job

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Participate as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Facilitate and deliver quality patient care through efficient time and resource management, demonstrating leadership and clinical expertise.

  • Advance current nursing practice in accordance with NMBI guidelines.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development in line with current and future service demands.

  • Communicate effectively with the Clinical Coordinator and provide support as required.

  • Manage daily operational requirements and collaborate closely with other departments.

  • Ensure the safe operation of equipment and the efficient management of supplies.

  • Adhere to internal controls and participate in all regulatory and mandatory hospital survey processes.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Adhere to The Professional Scope of Practice Framework (NMBI 2000).

  • Conduct individual patient assessments and develop care plans.

  • Ensure patients receive optimal care following all nursing and hospital policies.

  • Delegate appropriately based on the skill level and knowledge of staff.

  • Maintain accurate and timely professional documentation.

  • Support department problem-solving and system improvement initiatives.

  • Follow standard precautions, including the appropriate use of protective barriers and disposal of infectious waste.

Interdepartmental Collaboration

  • Maintain strong relationships with other departments, physicians, patients, and families.

  • Communicate with the relevant Clinical Coordinator as needed.

  • Demonstrate the ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively.

  • Participate in ongoing consultation and collaboration to maximize patient outcomes.

  • Engage in unit-based and interdepartmental quality improvement activities.

  • Show willingness to assist co-workers whenever needed.

  • Be cross-trained and available for allocation to PACU as required.

Personal & Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional portfolio.

  • Utilize opportunities to educate patients and families.

  • Attend relevant study days and courses.

  • Act as a preceptor or supervisor to students and newly appointed staff.

  • Participate in performance reviews with the Nurse Manager.

Educational Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the continual enhancement of learning opportunities in the clinical area.

  • Support the clinical induction of new nursing and support staff.

  • Take responsibility for own learning and development needs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Concentrate on interpreting visual, auditory, and sensory inputs as needed.

  • Utilize effective time management skills.

  • Maintain flexibility to meet hospital needs, including floating to other departments as necessary.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • NMBI Registered General Nurse licence.

  • BLS & ACLS certification.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting, preferably in Anaesthetics.

  • A management course is desirable.

  • Proven clinical ability and strong communication skills.
