Job Title: Fleet Technical Manager, An Garda Síochána

The Fleet Technical Manager will report to the Head of Fleet Management and will be responsible for all technical aspects of the fleet. The Fleet Technical Manager will manage a technical team and will assist in the efficient and safe operation of the fleet. This is a complex and technical task.

An Garda Síochána requires an Engineer, experienced in blue light emergency fleet operations in order to provide technical leadership and advice to senior management to allow informed decision making. As the largest proportion of the Garda Fleet consists of cars and light commercial vehicles, this will be the main area of focus, while the successful candidate will also be required to have knowledge in the area of heavy commercial vehicles. A significant aspect of the role will be the specification and management of vehicle tenders and complex conversions for specific Garda requirements.

The successful candidate will lead the development of fleet strategies, identification of appropriate vehicles, specification of selected fleet, and reviewing and monitoring subsequent procurements. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of Government procurement and familiarity with, or capacity to acquire quickly, a good knowledge of the wide range of operations of An Garda Síochána and its fleet requirements.


Essential Professional Qualifications, Experience
Candidates must on or before the closing date of this competition:

  • Hold a qualification at a minimum of level 7 or equivalent on the National Framework of Qualifications in a relevant discipline, e.g. Transport Operations and Technology, Transport Logistics, Transport Management, Automotive Engineering or equivalent.

OR

  • Certificate in Motor Car Engineering from the Dept. of Education or the City and Guilds equivalent


AND

  • Have 5 years' minimum experience in a large fleet management operation including a minimum of 3 years' experience managing complex projects and/or contracts and must demonstrate strong leadership abilities with experience in managing performance and leading a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Possess a high standard of technical training and have experience of managing or maintaining a large diverse vehicle fleet.
  • Have a proven track record in writing and evaluating public procurement.
  • Demonstrate experience in managing complex vehicle conversions.
  • Have experience of managing large budgets in excess of €10 million.


Desirable skills:
The ideal candidate will:

  • Have significant experience of blue light fleet operations, maintenance and planning.
  • Have experience in the development of detailed asset care programs.
