Consultant Psychiatrist

Work Location Rathfarnham, Dublin 16

Contract Type Permanent, full-time (37 hours per week) with an on-call commitment - fully onsite role.

Reports to Clinical Director

THE ROLE!

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our client's team in South Dublin. The client is a healthcare provider provides a spectrum of neuropsychiatric services to adults with a range of serious and enduring mental health needs such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's Diseases, as well as individuals with early onset dementias, schizophrenia, and mood disorders.

The post of Consultant Psychiatrist is a pivotal post with responsibility to lead a multi-disciplinary clinical team and ensuring that the highest standard of clinical care is planned, delivered, and evaluated and that all targets and objectives are met in line with national and local standards.

Key Duties:

  • Provision of the services of a psychiatrist to patients and residents and for the purpose of regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Director to support the development and delivery of operational and strategic plans.
  • Advise the Clinical Director of clinical priorities and pressures and be an active participant in strategic development discussions.
  • Provide for and ensure the delivery of positive patient and resident outcomes and with the continued strive for excellence.
  • Management of the clinical team members as designated by the Clinical Director.
  • Liaise with MDT to ensure that activities across the centre are appropriately co-ordinated and integrated.
  • Develop new innovative ways of delivering clinical services.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE and Mental Health Commission requirements.
  • Ensure that systems are in place to deliver accurately and in timely fashion, all statutory information requirements including, for example, Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
  • Maintain regular communication with all staff in the centre.
  • Facilitate the maintenance of professional clinical competence.
  • Foster an open and inclusive style of working which facilitates positive relationships.
  • Ensure the highest standards of clinical effectiveness in the Hospital, including the delivery of local and national recommendations, such as Mental Health Commission, Health Information and Quality Authority, and HSE guidelines, College of Psychiatry of Ireland guidelines and other national reports.
  • Lead on Quality Improvement, Audits and Service Evaluations.
  • Always maintain a patient-safety focus.

Essential Criteria:

  • Must be eligible to work in Ireland as sponsorship is not provided for this role.
  • Must have full registration with the Specialist Register (Psychiatrist) of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland.
  • Must be registered as a general adult psychiatrist with a sub specialised interest in rehabilitation is an advantage.
  • Have a management level or position of additional responsibility to their clinical area.
  • Demonstrate an ability to lead change and to develop clinical services.
  • Energetic individual with solid clinical experience in collaborating with a team of diverse clinicians and strong knowledge of the concepts and operation of Clinical Governance.
  • Strong ability to teach, manage, participate, and play a key role in the practice and education of medical students, medical staff, nursing, and other allied health professions and promote and engage in the teaching/training/support of others as appropriate.
  • Have a good knowledge and experience of health, safety and other statutory regulations affecting a healthcare organisation.
