Our client is a leading international supplier of industrial consumable products, with a strong presence in Ireland and a well-established reputation for quality products and customer service. The business offers an extensive range of products to customers across various sectors, including automotive, engineering, construction, renewable energy and trade. With a nationwide network of trade outlets and a large team of sales representatives, the organisation continues to invest in its retail offering, customer experience and future expansion.

Responsibilities

As a Shop Assistant, you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the store, providing excellent customer service while supporting sales and overall store performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong relationships with customers by providing friendly, knowledgeable and helpful service;
  • Identifying sales opportunities and recommending suitable products from the extensive product range;
  • Working towards monthly sales, margin and other key performance targets;
  • Promoting products and services to both new and existing customers;
  • Making outbound telesales calls to generate sales and maintain customer relationships;
  • Ensuring the shop floor and counter area are clean, tidy and professionally presented;
  • Monitoring stock levels and helping to maintain product availability;
  • Following health and safety procedures and maintaining a safe working environment;
  • Remaining aware of security procedures and taking responsibility for protecting company stock and assets;
  • Providing holiday and sickness cover at the Athlone store when required.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with on-target earnings of €36,744+ per annum;
  • Additional earning potential through monthly and quarterly sales incentives;
  • Full-time position;
  • 24 days annual leave;
  • Structured onboarding programme and comprehensive training;
  • Paid sick leave scheme;
  • Employee referral scheme;
  • Staff discount;
  • Long-service rewards;
  • Career progression and development opportunities;
  • Access to wellness initiatives and a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.

Criteria

  • Previous experience in sales, retail or a customer-facing role;
  • A strong sales-driven mindset with the ambition to achieve and exceed targets;
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable manner;
  • A genuine interest in helping customers and recommending suitable products;
  • Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude;
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and willing to learn;
  • A full driving licence is essential;
  • Flexibility to work across both Galway and Athlone stores, including at short notice when cover is required;
  • Previous experience in construction, automotive, tools, DIY or trade retail would be an advantage but is not essential.
