Freight Forwarding / Transport Planning Manager

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Freight Forwarding or Transport Planning professional looking to take the next step in your career?

We are seeking a motivated and commercially minded professional with a strong background in freight forwarding, transport planning or logistics operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with several years of industry experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility, lead a small team and play a key role in the day-to-day running of a department.

The ideal candidate will combine strong operational knowledge with excellent organisational and communication skills, alongside the ability to manage customer relationships, coordinate transport activities and ensure operations run efficiently.

Previous experience managing a small team or overseeing a department would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate day-to-day freight forwarding and transport planning operations.

• Organise and manage the movement of goods, ensuring collections and deliveries are completed efficiently and on schedule.

• Coordinate with hauliers, transport providers, customers and other relevant stakeholders.

• Plan and optimise transport schedules, routes and resources to maximise efficiency and control costs.

• Manage customer enquiries, provide shipment updates and resolve operational issues promptly.

• Monitor transport costs, service levels and operational performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.

• Ensure all relevant transport documentation and compliance requirements are maintained.

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and external transport partners.

• Support, supervise and develop team members, ensuring workloads are managed effectively.

• Take ownership of departmental operations, helping to improve processes and maintain high standards of service.

• Work closely with management to support business objectives and contribute to the continued growth of the operation.

The Ideal Candidate

• Several years of experience in freight forwarding, transport planning, road freight or logistics operations.

• A strong understanding of transport coordination, freight movements and logistics processes.

• Previous experience supervising or managing a small team would be a distinct advantage.

• Experience taking responsibility for departmental operations or acting as a senior operational lead.

• Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.

• Strong customer service skills and the ability to build lasting business relationships.

• Commercial awareness, including an understanding of transport costs and operational efficiency.

• The ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and make effective operational decisions.

• A proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership and drive improvements.
