Location: Newforge
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £15.83 per hour

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) delivers world-class scientific research and services in agriculture, food, fisheries, veterinary sciences, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Engagement and Development team, duties will include:

  • Administering and coordinating the annual organisational training needs analysis process.
  • Researching and engaging external training providers while ensuring procurement procedures are followed.
  • Processing and coordinating ad-hoc training requests across the organisation.
  • Producing regular reports and analysis for senior stakeholders on learning, development, engagement, and wellbeing activities.
  • Maintaining accurate records, statistics, and management information.
  • Supporting and promoting employee engagement and health and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Providing advice and guidance on learning and development policies and procedures.
  • Creating engaging monthly and quarterly staff communications relating to wellbeing, training, and development opportunities.
  • Processing and monitoring invoices in collaboration with the Finance Department.
  • Coordinating student placements and visiting worker programmes, liaising with universities, managers, supervisors, and participants.
  • Handling sensitive information with confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Supporting the wider People & Culture team to ensure a consistent, high-quality service across AFBI.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A*-C, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • At least 1 year's continuous experience in a fast-paced environment supporting Learning & Development programmes and employee engagement/wellbeing initiatives.
  • Experience managing a varied workload and coordinating activities involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience providing advice and support through effective verbal and written communication.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word, including reporting functions such as pivot tables.

Desirable Criteria

Applicants with the following experience may have an advantage:

  • Knowledge of online learning and development platforms and digital tools.
  • Experience managing purchase orders and invoice processes.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and solution-focused approach to work.
