Job Title: Staff Nurse - High Dependency Unit (HDU)
Location: Private Hospital
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Reports To: Clinical Nurse Manager
Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Staff Nurse to join our High Dependency Unit (HDU). This role is critical in providing high-quality nursing care to patients, ensuring effective assessment, planning, and delivery of care within the hospital's HDU. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver a compassionate, professional, and patient-centered service.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Current registration on the general division with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum of 2 years of post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Proven clinical and professional competence.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in English.
Desirable:
- Specialty qualification in Critical Care, Intensive Care, or High Dependency nursing.
- Current certification in Advanced Life Support (ALS).
- Completion of COMPASS or ALERT training.
- Strong clinical judgment and experience in risk management and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, and implement appropriate nursing interventions in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Maintain competence in HDU-specific tasks such as managing respiratory support, invasive monitoring, blood transfusions, and care for post-operative patients.
- Coordinate patient care with an emphasis on safety, quality, and the effective use of resources.
- Act as an advocate for patient rights, ensuring confidentiality and respectful care.
- Document care accurately and participate in quality assurance initiatives, including patient safety and infection control.
Specific Duties in HDU:
- Set up and manage HDU bed spaces and emergency equipment.
- Use and manage HDU equipment including ventilators, monitors, infusion pumps, and blood warmers.
- Conduct patient risk assessments, including the use of the INEWS tool.
- Provide care for patients on Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV), with arterial lines, and requiring inotropic support.
- Communicate effectively using tools such as RSVP/ISBAR for seamless information flow.
- Facilitate discharge and patient transfer, ensuring a thorough handover.
