Working Hours: 37 hours weekly (for full-time)

THE ROLE!

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our client's team in South Dublin. The client is a healthcare provider provides a spectrum of neuropsychiatric services to adults with a range of serious and enduring mental health needs such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's Diseases, as well as individuals with early onset dementia, schizophrenia, and mood disorders.

The post of Senior Speech and Language Therapist is a pivotal post with responsibility to lead a multi-disciplinary clinical team and ensuring that the highest standard of clinical care is planned, delivered, and evaluated and that all targets and objectives are met in line with national and local standards.

Key Duties:

  • Conducting assessments to identify speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Designing and implementing individualized therapy plans based on assessment results.
  • Providing therapy sessions to clients, both one-on-one and in group settings, using evidence-based techniques.
  • Evaluating, monitoring and documenting client progress, adjusting therapy plans as needed.
  • Collaborating with families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure consistent and holistic care.
  • Participating in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Be able to make clinical decisions following assessment of complex cases.
  • Arrange and conduct assessment and treatment / intervention programmes in line with local policy / guidelines.
  • Be able to work collaboratively with the MDT and service users in supporting the management of Decision Making and Capacity Assessments for service users.
  • Communicate results of assessments and recommendations to the service user and relevant others as appropriate.
  • Document all assessments, diagnoses, treatment / intervention plans, clinical notes, relevant contacts, and summaries in accordance with department and professional standards.
  • Provide clinical leadership in the day-to-day running of the service by supporting and supervising staff, prioritising and allocating work and promoting positive staff morale.
  • Manage, participate and play a key role in the practice education of student therapists and promote and engage in the teaching / training / support / supervision of others as appropriate.
  • Engage in planning and performance reviews, as required with the Clinical Director.
  • Contribute to service developments by monitoring and evaluating emerging needs and trends in consultation with team members.
  • Develop the role of the Senior Speech and Language Therapist and the service e.g. through planning, audit, production of standards, continuing education, quality improvement initiatives and research.
  • Be responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of service in designated area(s).
  • Ensure good working practice and adherence to standards of best practice.
  • Participate in the control and ordering of clinical equipment.

Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Registered with CORU as a Speech and Language Therapist in Ireland.
  • Dysphagia qualification to accredited level by IASLT.
  • 3 years full-time post qualification clinical experience working with adults.
  • At least 1-year full-time experience working within a Neuro-disability setting or a Mental Health setting with adults.
  • Clinical proficiency in the assessment and treatment of adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based therapeutic techniques and interventions relevant to the role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to demonstrate strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassionate and patient-centred approach to therapy.
