Payroll Assistant

An independent, top-tier accounting firm of Chartered Accountants is looking to add an experienced Payroll Assistant to its growing team. The successful candidate will have previous experience running various pay frequencies for small and medium businesses in Northern Ireland, providing admin for all aspects of our client's payroll function.

Main Tasks

• Communicate with clients regarding payroll.
• Maintain and update the payroll processing spreadsheet.
• Add new employees to the payroll software using the Starter Checklist and/or P45.
• Review HMRC records for any student loan deductions or tax code updates.
• Process payrolls within the required deadlines set by clients.
• Calculate employee wages, including adjustments for sick pay, holidays, SMP, and other factors as per client instructions.
• Handle payroll-related phone inquiries from clients.
• Contact HMRC on behalf of clients for any PAYE-related queries.
• Provide copies of payslips, P45s, and P60s upon request.
• Manage payroll year-end processes.
• Distribute or upload P60s for year ends.
• Submit pension contributions from both employees and employers to the relevant pension schemes.
• Complete and submit pension regulator compliance declarations before re-enrolment deadlines.

Criteria

• 2/3 Years of experience within an accountancy practice/ payroll bureau.
• Experience liaising with clients or employees as a first point of contact would be ideal.
• Strong understanding of payroll matters and current legislation.
• Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
• Experience with Sage Bureau Manager/ Sage 50 payroll.
• Good problem-solving and planning skills.
• ROI Payroll Experience would be an advantage but not essential.
