The Role:
​​​​​​​There are a range of positions across all functions of Digital & ICT in An Garda Síochána that will be filled by successful candidates to this competition. The types of areas where positions are available include:

  • ICT Service Management
  • ICT Infrastructure Support & Development
  • ICT Operations Systems Support
  • ICT Hardware Configuration, Support & Deployment
  • Networks
  • Cyber Security

The specific duties of an ICT Specialist at Executive Officer level in Infrastructure, Operations and Networks will largely be determined by the role to which you are assigned, however some duties and responsibilities will be common to all roles. The range of activities and responsibilities attached to the role will include some or all of the following:

  • ​​​​​​​As part of a service desk engineer team, provide direct technical support and advice to end users on the range of solutions and devices provided to help them in their work;
  • Assist with administration, implementation, diagnostics, and on-going support of the organisation's ICT infrastructure across a broad set of technologies and solutions;
  • Play an active role in technical implementation projects and rollout of new hardware, applications and operating systems and ICT/ digital services across the organisation which can include developing and providing hands-on training and demonstrations;
  • Explain complex technical information to a non-technical audience, potentially including as part of service desk support and user training programmes;
  • Play an active role on the team working with business units in the organisation to identify ICT/digital needs, opportunities and solutions;
  • Be an active member of the team involved in designing, developing and supporting end-to-end business solutions for use internally and externally
  • Develop and maintain a broad knowledge of technology solutions, current trends and techniques and proactively pursue new technology developments;
  • Take ownership to ensure issues are resolved or escalated to the proper resources to resolve in a timely manner with minimum disruption to the operational areas;
  • Monitor and report on adherence to ICT security policies and procedures;
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of relevant ICT-related standards, policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to and built upon; ​​​​​​​
  • Research a topic and summaries findings;
  • Undertake such training and development as may be required to ensure that you stay up to date with the technologies in your area of operations;
  • Assist with the procurement of ICT services and products as may be required; and such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by your Manager.
  • Ability to identify technical analysis capabilities per project requirements and needs.​​​​​​
