Overview

Staffline is recruiting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive for an experienced Roofer to join the Housing Executive Direct team in the Belfast area.

This role is ideal for a qualified, time-served or skills-based Roofer with at least two years' post-apprenticeship experience in property maintenance, repairs or improvement works. The successful candidate will carry out roofing repairs and refurbishment across Housing Executive properties, ensuring high standards of workmanship, health and safety, and customer service.

You will also be required to undertake additional multi-skilled maintenance tasks outside your core trade, helping to provide an efficient and responsive service to tenants. Training may be provided where necessary.

Key Duties:

  • Carry out roofing maintenance, repairs and refurbishment across Housing Executive properties.

  • Remove and replace roof coverings, including slates, tiles and flat roofing materials.

  • Repair and replace leadwork, roof tiles, chimney pots, gutters and fascias.

  • Inspect pitched and flat roofs, identify faults and carry out appropriate repairs.

  • Undertake additional maintenance tasks, including joinery, plumbing, plastering, painting, tiling and flooring.

  • Liaise with tenants to arrange appointments, organise access and discuss required works.

  • Complete job records, paperwork and electronic reporting accurately and within agreed timescales.

  • Ensure all work complies with relevant health and safety legislation, risk assessments and safe working practices.

  • Maintain tools, equipment and personal protective equipment appropriately.

  • Complete work to a high standard, leaving properties safe, clean and tidy.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and subcontractors to meet operational targets.

  • Support and mentor apprentices and newly qualified colleagues where required.

The successful candidate may also be required to participate in an emergency call-out rota, including nights and weekends.

Essential Criteria:

  • Successfully completed an apprenticeship in Roofing, either time-served or skills-based.

  • A minimum of 2 years' post-apprenticeship roofing experience, gained through property maintenance, repairs or improvement works.

  • Willingness to undertake additional training outside the core trade, including Level 2 Multi-skilling, or achieve this within a specified timeframe.

  • Demonstrable competence in roofing, with the ability to complete a range of tasks independently.

  • Sound practical knowledge of current health and safety requirements and legislation within a maintenance and repair environment.

  • Excellent communication skills and a strong customer-focused approach.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage workloads effectively.

  • Accurate record-keeping skills and strong attention to detail.

  • A full, current driving licence.

Candidates may also be assessed against the relevant sections of the NIHE Behavioural Framework.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience providing a responsive maintenance service.

  • A full, current driving licence that includes the C1 category.

Training and Progression:

Training may be provided to support the development of additional skills outside the core roofing trade.

Employees who demonstrate the required competence and proficiency may be considered for progression to a Gold Multi-Skilled Roofer position, subject to completing a competency assessment, meeting the relevant criteria and suitable vacancies being available.
