My client a leading public sector organisation based in Belfast is currently seeking a Behaviour Therapist to join their existing team.

Hours: The hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week, 9.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday

Pay: £19.78 per hour

JOB SUMMARY/MAIN PURPOSE:

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Children with Disability service of the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. The post holder will provide specialist clinical expertise for children with a learning disability who also display challenging behaviour and require support as a result of this behaviour. The post holder will provide autonomous comprehensive assessment and behavioural interventions for children under the supervision of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and lead Behaviour Therapist. They will work independently according to a plan agreed within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. The post holder will have direct clinical involvement and a knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions. The post holder will act as an advisor to other members of the multi-disciplinary team and to colleagues in Education on the assessment, planning and delivery of behavioural interventions. The post holder will work within relevant guidelines, policies and legislation.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  1. To contribute, in association with other professionals in the service, to the organisation and development of specialist services for children with disability, who require behavioural assessment and interventions.
  2. To advise the Team lead of priorities in development related to behavioural issues within the service.
  3. To collaborate with the management team and other colleagues in establishing, implementing and auditing professional standards within the Service.
  4. To maintain and provide statistical returns as required.
  5. To maintain appropriate clinical and other agency records as required.
  6. To meet regularly with the Team lead and/or professional Manager for professional supervision, to ensure good standards of practice and promote career development and to ensure access to relevant professional supervision.
  7. To conform to the expectations of KSF/PCP and PDP by meeting with immediate line manager in order to ensure productive functioning.
  8. To comply with policies and procedures of the Trust.
  9. To effectively manage a caseload.
  10. To participate in committees and working parties as appropriate to clinical work.
  11. To participate as required in recruitment and selection and appointment of staff to the service as necessary and in accordance with the Trust's Recruitment and Selection Policy.

Clinical

  1. To be responsible for providing and monitoring of a specialist behavioural assessment and intervention service to children with disabilities who fulfil the criteria for access to service. This is likely to occur in children's homes, educational establishments and other relevant services.
  2. To prioritise in collaboration with team leads within the service, the allocation of individuals referred to the Team in line with current demands on services.
  3. To advise and support other members of the Team working with children on behavioural aspects of conducting assessments and implementing interventions.
  4. To support Educational staff, parents and carers in the provision of behavioural assessments and interventions to children with special educational needs or disability in receipt of services from the Team.
  5. To work closely with other staff in Health and Social Services and Education who provide support to children with special educational needs or disabilities.
  6. To work collaboratively with other service providers across Health and Social Services, Education, voluntary and private sectors in the best interest of the child.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION

Essential

Degree level qualification in a relevant Health and Social Care/Education area (e.g. Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Teacher) with live registration (or equivalent) with their respective professional body if appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE

A minimum of two years post-qualifying experience working with children/adults who present with problem behaviour, one year of which must be with children

Experience in autonomously assessing, designing and implementing behavioural interventions for children

Experience of working as a member of a multidisciplinary team

Experience working with families

Communication & Relationship Skills

An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines. An ability to interact and communicate with children and families.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Experience of delivering training programmes to a wide range of stakeholders

Planning and Organization Skills

Able to plan, organise own workload independently and be accountable for use of time

Physical Skills

Basic Keyboard Skills

Experience of report writing

Personal

An interest in working with children and families

Able to be flexible and adapt approach according to need and to innovate on the basis of theoretical knowledge
