Job Description

The Quality Metrology Technician is responsible for performing precision measurements and inspections to ensure that products comply with established quality standards. The role involves using advanced metrology equipment and techniques to verify the accuracy and quality of parts and components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform precision measurements using metrology equipment, such as PCMM (Portable Coordinate Measuring Machines - Faro Arm, Romer Arm), calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Conduct inspections on incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products to verify compliance with specifications and tolerances.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to determine appropriate inspection criteria.
  • Record and analyse measurement data to identify trends and deviations from quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to address quality concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain and calibrate metrology equipment to ensure measurement accuracy and reliability.
  • Document inspection findings and prepare comprehensive quality reports.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by providing recommendations on inspection processes and quality control methods.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures and standards.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in metrology, quality control, engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Quality Metrology Technician or similar role.
  • Expertise in using metrology and inspection equipment, including PCMMs, calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and precision in performing measurements.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to quality improvement.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100D) is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with PCMMs, such as Faro Arm or Romer Arm, is a distinct advantage.
