An Garda Síochána seeks to appoint a number of Accountant Grade 2 professionals to positions. These are senior management positions and holders will have functional leadership responsibility for key business areas in the Finance Directorate.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The general duties and responsibilities listed below are indicators of the responsibilities which may be assigned and are not intended to be the actual list of duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post and/or which may be assigned from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office:
- Contributing to, preparation of and quality assuring the Garda Estimates, budgets/forecasts, Appropriation Account, ISF/EU Funding and other official reporting functions as may be required.
- Dealing with requests from external stakeholder partners such as Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), Department of Justice, Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Services, Reform and Digitalisation, An Garda Síochána Board and the Policing and Community Safety Authority.
- Preparation of internal and external financial and management reports.
- Administration and governance of key reconciliations and control accounts.
- Ensuring proper internal and accounting controls are in place and ensure controls and performance measures are in place to deliver efficient and high standard of services.
- Development and implementation of new and improvements to financial management policies, procedures and systems.
- Enhancement and maintenance of an overall financial control environment to ensure best practice.
- Lead and partake in the reform agenda of the Garda finance function.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate management information systems, financial management systems and other related ICT systems.
- Plan, organise, manage and supervise day to day operations in order to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- To undertake such duties, projects or activities as may be assigned from time to time.
Essential Criteria
Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:
- Possess a professional accountancy qualification and be a member of a recognised body of accountants and have at least two years' relevant post qualification experience
- Have satisfactory experience of accountancy work, including management accounting and/or financial accounting.
- Excellent working knowledge of integrated Financial Management Systems and Microsoft Excel.
