Garda Occupational Health and Wellbeing (GOHW) is an executive directorate in An Garda Síochána with responsibility for the occupational health and wellbeing of all Garda personnel.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is the Executive Director over GOHW and has organisational responsibility for occupational health and wellbeing across An Garda Síochána with specific responsibilities for strategic leadership and oversight for occupational health services delivery and the health and wellbeing agenda for An Garda Síochána. The CMO also provides medicolegal and advisory function to the Garda Commissioner and the senior leadership team as well as accountability in related matters to the Garda Executive and relevant oversight bodies on behalf of the Commissioner. GOHW is made up of a team of specialist occupational health nurses and occupational health physicians, health and wellbeing professionals, and a business support team staffed with various administrative grades.
The Role
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) or as may be designated, the Occupational Health Physician (OHP) will serve as clinical lead for their assigned GOHS hub/region and work with the existing team to provide occupational health services to promote and maintain the physical, mental and social wellbeing, and work ability of employees of An Garda Síochána in line with the Garda Síochána Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Implementation Plan.

Essential Criteria
Candidates must, on or before the closing date for applications, have:
1. a) Current registration or eligibility for registration in the Irish Medical Council's General Register of Medical Practitioners.
*Please note: Candidates who are successful in this competition will be required, prior to appointment, to be registered with the Irish Medical Council.
and
b) A relevant postgraduate membership qualification in Occupational Medicine obtained by examination, e.g. Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine Ireland or Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine UK.
(Where the examination has already been passed, but the qualification has not been conferred, documentary evidence will be required).
Experience in medical assessment of employees to determine fitness for work subsequent to or during sickness absence and advising on workplace adjustments where applicable.
3. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team, which may include medical, nursing or allied healthcare professionals.
4. Experience providing advice to an organisation on a wide range of occupational health issues, including complex issues.
5. Experience identifying areas for occupational health service improvement and implementing effective change.
