Title: Higher Executive Officer (HEO)
Location: Dublin Castle, Dublin 2
Salary: Starting from €55,996

Our client the An Garda Síochána are currently looking for Higher Executive Officer (HEO) in the Garda Museum. The specific responsibilities can vary from museum to museum. However, in a small independent museum such as the Garda Museum, the role will be the management of the facility and the historical collection. This involves looking after the collection, operations, staff and volunteers.

General Duties:

  • Create a welcome environment for visitors, conducive to learning, through quality customer service standards. Responsibility for a collection of artefacts.
  • Acquiring objects or collections of interest to the museum.
  • Cataloguing acquisitions and keeping and archiving records.
  • Displaying objects or collections in a way that makes them accessible and engaging to the general public.
  • Planning, organising, interpreting and presenting exhibitions and lectures.
  • Negotiating loan items, external loans.
  • Carrying out background research and writing catalogues.
  • Writing materials and articles for the website and internal and external publications.
  • Dealing with and understanding computer-generated imagery and website software as part of enhancing visitor interaction and experience.
  • Responsibility for management of the Museum.
  • Budget planning, forecasting and reporting.
  • Staff management, annual appraisals and disciplinary matters.
  • Managing the administrative duties of the team.
  • Staff training, promotion and development.
  • Dealing with enquiries from stakeholders.
  • Handling enquiries from researchers and the public.
  • Liaising with voluntary groups, the community and industry (including schools, local history and other community groups), as well as grant agencies to secure support for events, publications and development projects.
  • Networking and collaborating with other museums and outside agencies.
