Band 5 Biomedical Scientist

Location: Laboratory, RVH

Pay Per Hour: £15.33

Working Hours: 37.5 hrs

JOB SUMMARY/MAIN PURPOSE:

Work as part of a laboratory team within the Cellular Pathology Department, Belfast Trust Laboratories

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

· Performs basic laboratory work while undertaking training to gain a Registered Biomedical Scientist qualification

· Carry out appropriate procedures, including those requiring the exercise of independent judgement and initiative with minimal supervision.

· Assist in research projects, where necessary, and to be involved in the development of new procedures and techniques.

· Recognise and comply with safety regulations, guidelines and policy.

· Carry out any other duties not specified above but which might be reasonably expected of a Biomedical Scientist Grade (band 5/ 6).

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST SPECIALIST (BAND 6)

Must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)

as a Biomedical Scientist AND have completed IBMS Specialist

Diploma (or equivalent) in relevant discipline AND have at least 1 year's

post HCPC registration experience in the relevant discipline.

Have been employed as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) in

3 of the last 6 years, working in the relevant discipline. Applicant must

have maintained HCPC registration and appear on the register.

BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST (BAND 5)

Must be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist

***Candidates appointed as Band 5 must obtain an IBMS Specialist

Diploma in relevant discipline within 36 months of registration with the HCPC*

TRAINEE BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST (BAND 5)

Must possess an IBMS accredited Biomedical Science degree (as

currently listed on the IBMS website. Guide to IBMS accredited honours

degree level biomedical science courses)

OR

hold a non-IBMS accredited science degree acceptable to the IBMS

and have completed all necessary "top up modules"

AND

complete HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist within 12 months

of employment. Please detail on your application form which University

you attended.

***Candidates appointed as Band 5 must obtain an IBMS Specialist

Diploma in relevant discipline within 36 months of registration with the

HCPC***

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

Experience of requirements of MHRA and

UKAS ISO 15189 (As applicable)

Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Organisation which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
