Staffline Recruitment is currently looking for an Accessibility and Inclusion Officer to join our large public sector client, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

Location: Antrim Civic Centre/Mossley Mill (Post-holder will be primarily based in one location but may be required to work at the other location from time to time, as business needs dictate)
Contract: Full-time, Temporary
Salary: £23.37 per hour

This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead in ensuring the Council meets its legal obligations under equality and disability legislation, while promoting a culture of accessibility, diversity and inclusion across all services.

Main Purpose of the Role:
The Accessibility and Inclusion Officer will design, implement and continuously improve equality and inclusion policies. You will work closely with staff, councillors, and external organisations to make sure services are accessible to everyone, and that diversity is embedded into all aspects of Council work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of the Council's Equality Scheme, Equality Action Plan, and Disability Action Plan.

  • Deliver training and awareness programmes for staff and councillors.

  • Work with the Equality Commission and other relevant bodies.

  • Coordinate and support Equality Impact Assessments and Disability Impact Assessments.

  • Promote diversity and equality across the Council's services.

  • Manage the Council's Dual Language Signage Policy.

  • Identify funding and grant opportunities to support accessibility and inclusion projects.

  • Conduct accessibility audits of Council facilities, communications and services.

  • Support the delivery of programmes such as Dementia Friendly and Autism Impact accreditation's.

Essential Criteria:

  • A relevant third-level qualification OR 3 year's broad experience in a similar role.

  • At least 2 year's experience in accessibility, inclusion, or equality-related work.

  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation and statutory duties.

  • Experience delivering training and engaging with a range of stakeholders, including the public and elected representatives.

  • Excellent communication, policy development, and report-writing skills.

  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Full driving licence (or access to transport if disability prevents driving).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working in a local government environment.

  • Experience with dual language projects.
