The Role

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a major healthcare Capital & Estates function at Chief Assistant Technical Services Officer (CATSO) level.

As Quantity Surveying Adviser, you will take a senior role in the design, procurement, commercial management and delivery of capital, refurbishment and estate projects. Working alongside multidisciplinary design teams, contractors and internal stakeholders, you will help ensure projects are delivered effectively against agreed cost, programme and quality requirements.

This is an attractive opportunity for an experienced QS seeking greater client-side project ownership, with involvement from early design and cost planning through procurement, construction and completion. Quantity Surveyors from consultancy, main contractor, client-side or public-sector backgrounds, with experience across capital works, construction, refurbishment or complex building projects should apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the cost and commercial management of assigned capital, refurbishment and estate projects.
• Work closely with and oversee multidisciplinary design teams, including architects, engineers and Quantity Surveying consultants.
• Contribute to the planning, design and delivery of construction, refurbishment, upgrade and maintenance-related projects.
• Procure professional services, design teams, contractors and construction works, including tendering and contract award.
• Manage project budgets, cost plans, forecasts, valuations, variations, payments and final accounts.
• Monitor consultant and contractor performance against agreed cost, programme and quality standards.
• Provide commercial and contractual advice throughout the project lifecycle and assist in resolving project risks and issues.
• Supervise staff and contractors in the implementation of agreed programmes of work.
• Support value engineering and whole-life costing, ensuring value for money across capital and estate investment.
• Work collaboratively with Estates Managers, Project Managers, design teams, contractors and other key stakeholders.

About You

To be considered, you will have:

• A relevant Level 8 qualification in Quantity Surveying, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• A minimum of 7 years' relevant post-qualification Quantity Surveying experience.
• Appropriate professional registration/membership, or eligibility for membership, with SCSI/RICS.
• Strong pre-contract and post-contract Quantity Surveying experience.
• Experience across cost planning, procurement, tendering, contract administration and cost control.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary design teams, contractors and project stakeholders.
• A sound understanding of the design, construction, refurbishment and maintenance of buildings and building services.
• Strong commercial judgement, negotiation, communication and project-management skills.
• Knowledge of public-sector procurement and the Capital Works Management Framework (CWMF) would be advantageous.
• Access to appropriate transport, as travel between sites will be required.
