Crematorium Administrator

Location: Belfast
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £14.35 per hour

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Crematorium Administrator to provide clerical and administrative support within Crematorium Services.

This is a sensitive, customer-facing role requiring tact, compassion, respect and professionalism when dealing with members of the public, mourners, funeral directors and ministers of religion.

You will support the smooth running of the crematorium, manage bookings and documentation, respond to enquiries and provide front-line customer support in a sympathetic and dignified manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate cremation bookings and arrangements for cremated remains.
  • Process statutory and administrative documentation accurately and within required timescales.
  • Liaise with funeral directors, the central booking office and cemetery staff.
  • Assist members of the public with enquiries regarding graves, memorial trees, the Garden of Remembrance and memorialisation options.
  • Issue cremated remains and maintain accurate records.
  • Process payments, reconcile receipts and manage cash in accordance with procedures.
  • Maintain computerised and manual records, including CRM systems.
  • Undertake general administration, filing, word processing and data entry.
  • Manage administration supplies and assist with memorial tree allocation.
  • Assist with enquiries and complaints in a sensitive and professional manner.
  • Support the efficient running of the crematorium and participate in relevant training and quality initiatives.

Essential Experience

Applicants must have at least one year's relevant experience of:

  • Working in an environment dealing with bereavement issues, including providing advice and support sensitively.
  • Undertaking administrative and cash-handling duties within a business environment.
  • Using IT software, such as Microsoft Office or equivalent packages.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer care skills and the ability to deal with the public tactfully and sensitively.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety responsibilities.
  • Ability to use standard office and finance packages.
  • Good organisational and work-planning skills.
  • Understanding of performance management and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
