Senior Grassland and Cereal Agronomist
Location: Crossnacreevy
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours a week
Pay Rate: £24.59 per hour
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Manage VCU trials for both herbage and combinable crops.
- Assist with the management and delivery of ongoing research projects, including varietal research on multispecies crops and agronomy studies associated with legume crops.
- Contribute to the design, management and delivery of PhD student trials.
- Contribute to ongoing crop agronomy research and field-based studies.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy and integrity of data collected from trials.
- Manage, analyse and interpret scientific trial data and large datasets.
- Contribute to the preparation and publication of scientific papers.
- Assist with the preparation of internal and external technical and scientific reports.
- Manage staff, equipment and other resources associated with trial and research activities.
- Ensure trials are conducted efficiently, safely and in accordance with relevant experimental protocols and quality standards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and research partners to deliver agreed research objectives.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification and experience routes:
- PhD in Plant Science or a related bioscience field; and
- At least 2 years' experience in areas relating to crop research and testing.
OR
- Honours Degree (Level 6) in a relevant subject, or equivalent/higher qualification; and
- 4 years' demonstrable experience in areas relating to crop research and testing;
- Demonstratable practical experience in grassland or combinable crop production or management.
- Be a lead author on peer reviewed scientific articles published in scientific journals in the area of plant science · At least 2 years' post graduate experience of managing and analysing large databases in a scientific area of work
