About the Role
Staffline is recruiting for a Priority Waste Driver / Operative
The role involves driving allocated vehicles, collecting and transporting priority waste, carrying out street cleansing duties and supporting general waste collection and recycling operations.
You will play an important role in maintaining a clean, safe and attractive public environment across Belfast. The position involves regular interaction with members of the public and requires a strong focus on health and safety, customer care and maintaining high service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive allocated vehicles and trailers safely and responsibly, including carrying authorised passengers.
- Safely collect, load, segregate and transport priority waste to designated transfer or disposal sites.
- Carry out general waste collection, recycling and street cleansing duties as required.
- Complete relevant worksheets, vehicle documentation, reports and other paperwork accurately and on time.
- Use and safely store equipment and materials, including hand trucks, strapping equipment, power washers, gum machines and generators.
- Separate different types of waste and dispose of or store materials in accordance with management instructions.
- Follow driver procedures, accident and incident procedures and vehicle defect reporting requirements.
- Follow health and safety requirements, including safe lifting practices and the safe handling of hazardous substances.
- Report accidents, incidents, complaints and other issues to management.
- Ensure spillages and residues are cleaned and work areas are left to a high standard of cleanliness.
- Use radio and other telecommunications equipment as required.
- Undertake snow clearance and gritting duties during adverse weather conditions
Essential Criteria
Driving Licence, Qualification & Experience
Applicants must:
- Hold a full, current C1 category driving licence that enables them to drive in Northern Ireland.
- Hold a valid Driver Qualification Card (Driver CPC).
- Have at least six months' relevant experience in each of the following:
- Driving in a commercial or public sector environment.
- Dealing directly with members of the public in person.
- Provide personal and specific examples demonstrating the required experience on the application form.
- Successfully complete a driving assessment, where required, to demonstrate the ability to safely operate vehicles associated with the C1 licence.
