Job description

Residential Home Cook

Holywood

£13.45 per hour | 30 hours per week | Monday to Friday

Staffline Recruitment is currently recruiting for a Residential Home Cook on behalf of our client, at their Adult Residential Home in Holywood.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking nutritious, home-cooked meals and wants to make a real difference in people's daily lives.

Unlike a busy restaurant or commercial kitchen, this role involves preparing meals for a small group of around 6-8 residents living in a residential care setting. The meals are the sort of wholesome, home-style dishes you would cook for your own family, and you'll have the opportunity to create a warm and enjoyable dining experience for residents every day.

Hours of Work

  • Typically 12pm - 6pm
  • 30 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday
  • Some flexibility on working hours can be considered

The Role

As the Residential Home Cook, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of a small kitchen and dining service. Working independently and as part of a supportive team, you will:

  • Prepare and serve fresh, home-cooked lunches and evening meals
  • Plan meals in line with a rotating menu and residents' preferences
  • Complete weekly food orders and manage stock levels
  • Ensure dietary requirements and modified diets are safely catered for (full training provided)
  • Maintain kitchen hygiene and food safety standards
  • Complete kitchen cleaning schedules and temperature records
  • Prepare food for weekends and days when no cook is on duty
  • Work within an agreed food budget
  • Help create a positive mealtime experience for residents

What We're Looking For

This role would suit someone who:

  • Enjoys cooking wholesome, home-style meals
  • Is organised and able to manage their own workload
  • Can work independently and use their own initiative
  • Has previous experience in a care home, residential service, children's home, community setting, café, catering, or commercial kitchen
  • Understands the importance of food safety and kitchen hygiene
  • Enjoys building positive relationships and being part of a friendly team

Essential Requirements

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or equivalent) and at least 6 months' experience in food preparation in a professional kitchen

OR

  • Minimum 1 year's experience working as a Cook in a professional kitchen environment

What's on Offer?

  • £13.45 per hour
  • Paid breaks
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave, increasing with service
  • Enhanced Bank Holiday pay
  • Company pension scheme
  • Health Cashback Scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Paid training and development opportunities
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Refer a Friend bonus scheme

Why Apply?

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking but wants to move away from the pressure of a high-volume catering environment. You'll be preparing familiar, home-cooked meals in a small, friendly residential service where you can really get to know the people you're cooking for and make a positive difference every day.
