Finance Assistant (Maternity Cover)

Location: Newry, Co. Down
Contract: Temporary (Initial 9-Month Contract)
Hours: 39 Hours per Week
Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum

The Opportunity

Our client, a well established and highly respected organisation within the construction and contracting sector, is seeking a Finance Assistant to join their finance team on a maternity cover contract.

Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the day to day financial operations of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Match and process supplier purchase orders, delivery notes and invoices using Sage accounting software.
• Ensure all service and one-off invoices are approved in line with company procedures.
• Maintain allocated purchase ledger accounts.
• Process supplier credit card payments.
• Complete credit/debit card reconciliations.
• Perform bank reconciliations.
• Handle supplier queries, payments and discrepancy resolution.
• Process UK CIS and ROI RCT subcontractor payments.
• Assist with statutory returns including VAT, CIS and RCT submissions.
• Support the processing of UK and ROI payroll.
• Prepare and process supplier BACS payments.
• Liaise with procurement and operations teams to resolve delivery and pricing issues.
• Provide general administrative support to the wider team as required.
• Undertake additional duties as necessary to support the finance function.

Essential Criteria

• Minimum of 2 years' experience within a busy Accounts Payable or Finance Assistant role.
• Experience carrying out supplier reconciliations and resolving supplier queries.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Desirable Criteria

• Previous experience using Sage Purchase Ledger.
• Experience processing high volumes of financial transactions.
• Knowledge of CIS, RCT, VAT returns and payroll processes.
