Exciting opportunity with our client Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council who are currently seeking a temporary Verification Assistant to join their team.

This role is based in Coleraine, on a temporary basis Monday - Friday 37hrs per week

Main Purpose of Job:

  • To provide a comprehensive financial monitoring and support service to the PEACE IV Co-Ordinator in the implementation, maintenance and delivery of financial control systems for the PEACE IV Programme.
  • To provide up-to-date financial information as required for all Partnership, Steering Committee, and Working Groups as required.
  • To ensure compliance with EU, SEUPB and Council financial procedures.
  • To provide support and oversee procurement by Council-Led Programme and External Contractors
  • To verify all spend within the Peace IV Programme

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To prepare and provide Financial and Management Information in relation to Administration and Programme Activity, as required by Council, the EU, SEUPB and Audit bodies.
  • To design and maintain a computerised accounting system for recording transactions on activity for the Programme and capable of providing up-to-date information on all financial aspects of the PEACE IV Programme.
  • To update transactions, maintain internal and external databases (including the EU Grants database) and print reports on PEACE IV Programme, as required.
  • To advise other PEACE IV staff and External Contractors with regard to levels and quality of records to be maintained by projects in order to meet stringent audit requirements of Council, SEUPB and Europe.
  • To verify, prepare and process claims from project beneficiaries and members efficiently, effectively and on a timely basis, ensuring compliance with SEUPB Operating Rules and audit requirements.
  • To be responsible for the preparation of monthly administration claims to SEUPB and monitor this budget to ensure adequate funds are available for the duration of the Programme.
  • To prepare and forward responses to audit queries and general programme queries from SEUPB and other bodies. To retain and archive all records for audit inspection, as appropriate.
  • To assist on the development and monitoring of policies of financial procedures.
  • To produce monthly and quarterly financial reports, annual financial statements and projections relating to the performance and outputs of the Programme. To include overseeing the financial management of the PEACE IV Partnership including the budget setting process and monitoring of spend against budget, including variance analysis to assist with budget realignment between Priorities.
  • To maintain the asset register for all items capitalised by PEACE IV Programme.
  • To ensure familiarity with all aspects of the PEACE IV Programme including all financial and audit requirements of the managing authority and EU.
  • Undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Manager to the achievement of the purpose and function of the post.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • A third level qualification in a relevant subject such as Business or Finance

And

Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples a minimum of one years experience in financial and administrative duties to include

  1. Claims, processing including the vouching and verification of expenditure
  2. Collecting, analysing, interpreting and reporting on a variety of date
  3. Project monitoring

or

Alternatively consideration may be given to candidates who do not possess the required educational qualifications but who can demonstrate that they have three years experience outlined above 1-3

  • Experience in the use of all Microsoft packages

And

  • Knowledge and understanding of Verification procedures
