Job Title: Social Care Assistant

Location: Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent


About the Role

We are seeking a caring and committed Social Care Assistant to join a residential and day service team in Carrick-on-Suir. The role involves supporting adults with intellectual disabilities, empowering them to live fulfilling lives and participate fully in their community.

You will play an active part in delivering person-centred care and support, encouraging independence, choice, and personal development. The position requires flexibility to work a roster that includes evenings, weekends, and sleepover/waking night duties.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred support in daily living, personal care, and social activities.

  • Promote independence, self-advocacy, and community inclusion.

  • Support health and well-being needs, including attending medical appointments.

  • Assist with behaviour support plans, communication, and leisure activities.

  • Maintain accurate records and reports in line with policies and regulations.

  • Contribute positively to teamwork and the continuous improvement of services.


Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • QQI Level 5 Major Award (or higher) in Healthcare, Community, or Social Care (or equivalent).

  • Minimum of 1 year's experience supporting vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.

  • Knowledge of person-centred planning and safeguarding practices.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleepovers.

  • Full clean driving licence (up to 8 passenger seats and 3,500kg).

  • Garda/Police vetting clearance.

Desirable:

  • Training in Studio 3, low arousal approaches, or positive behaviour support.

  • Knowledge of HIQA regulations and Health & Safety practices.

  • Experience in not-for-profit or Section 38/39 funded services.

  • IT skills (Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams).
