The work of Digital and ICT in An Garda Síochána is focused on the delivery of front line policing and corporate systems in addition to developing our core infrastructure. The delivery of new digital & ICT solutions takes place in parallel to maintaining the large estate of existing systems and infrastructure for the organisation, with all activities supported by ICT Operations, Technical Architecture and Business Management functions. We support Garda personnel working in over 600 locations nationwide to prevent and investigate crime, keep communities safe and improve safety on our roads.Examples of recent projects include the provision of new state of art data centres, the upgrade of the national digital radio network, a complete overhaul of technology supports to our emergency call handing centres including a new computer-aided dispatch system, new systems to share information with our international partner agencies, roll out of smart phones and apps to front line members, and system updates to support victims of crime including domestic abuse.

As a Senior Network ICT Specialist, there will be considerable opportunity to influence and contribute to the development of data and technology solutions throughout An Garda Síochána, and to support our vision of keeping people safe by connecting data, technology and Garda personnel.

Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage a team of network engineers, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring SLAs are met
  • Lead the team by taking ownership of issues to ensure they are resolved or escalated to the proper channels so they can be fixed in a timely manner with minimum disruption to the user base
  • Support the operation of the network by monitoring and analysing network performance, and identifying areas for improvement
  • Ensure high availability, performance, reliability and security of the An Garda Síochána network infrastructure
  • Develop and ensure all necessary and appropriate network security measures are in place to protect the An Garda Síochána ICT Infrastructure
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network architecture, configuration changes, and incident logs
  • Assist in planning network upgrades, replacements, and new network implementations
  • Work with external vendors and service providers for network equipment, services, and maintenance

Essential Experience

  • Between 3 - 5 years of relevant experience (depending on qualification level)
  • Delivering network solutions that have positively impacted their organisation's business outcomes.
  • Managing a team of network specialists or support staff with a focus on continuous improvement and service delivery.
  • The introduction of innovative solutions within network systems.
  • Working in a dynamic environment with competing demands while handling multiple tasks effectively and deliver within deadlines.
