Principal Legal Officer

Principal Legal Officer required for a large public sector organisation based through the Northern Ireland Civil Service.

Location: Royal Courts of Justice, Belfast.

Pay Per Hour: £28.69

Full Time / Part Time: Full Time

JOB SUMMARY/MAIN PURPOSE:

Role: Principal Legal Officer - Legal Unit, Office of the Lady Chief Justice

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to: Provision of legal advice and support for LCJO Reform Team in relation to the implementation of the Gillen Review of Sexual Offences; provision of legal advice and support to the senior judiciary, including in relation to cases before the High Court and the Court of Appeal and in applications for leave to appeal to the Court of Appeal in criminal cases; support for the Legal Secretary to the LCJ in the discharge of advisory and speech-writing functions; provision of ad hoc legal advice and support to other judiciary and to LCJO colleagues; provision of support for the legal adviser & secretariat functions carried out by the Legal Unit; clearing of complex judgments for publication; such other duties as are commensurate with the requirements of the post.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Qualified solicitor or barrister, entitled to practice in NI, with 5 or more years post-qualification experience.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

Experience in the practice of criminal law.
