As an ICT Specialist in An Garda Síochána, there will be considerable opportunity to influence and contribute to the development of data and technology solutions throughout An Garda Síochána, and to support our vision of keeping people safe by connecting data, technology and Garda personnel.
There are a range of positions across all functions of Digital & ICT in An Garda Síochána that will be filled by successful candidates to this competition. The available positions are categorised into two broad streams, and candidates may apply for positions in one or both streams.
The first stream, Information Systems, incorporates positions including:
- Software Development.
- Digital Systems Support.
- Business Engagement.
- Software Testing / Quality Assurance
The second stream, Infrastructure, Operations and Networks, incorporates positions including:
- ICT Service Management.
- ICT Infrastructure Support & Development.
- ICT Operations Systems Support.
- ICT Hardware Configuration, Support & Deployment.
- Networks.
- Cyber Security.
The specific duties of an ICT Specialist will largely be determined by the role to which you are assigned, however some duties and responsibilities will be common to all roles. The ICT Specialist will have responsibility for a number of key day to day tasks to support the delivery, maintenance and quality assurance of AGS ICT systems and/or infrastructure.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
Each candidate must by the closing date meet one of the following criteria:
Route 1 - Formal Education:
(A) Hold a major award qualification of at Level 6, or higher, on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) in a relevant area of ICT, for example: an NFQ Level 6 qualification from a 2-year Post Leaving Cert Course at an ETB or an ICT-related degree at Level 7, or higher, from a University or College
and
(B) Demonstrate experience in an area of ICT relevant to this entry-level ICT Specialist role*. This experience can come from current or previous roles or through projects/assignments/work experience during your education programme.
or
Route 2 - Industry Certification:
(A) Hold at least one industry recognised certification in a relevant area of ICT relating to Software Development (see below for a range of examples)
and
(B) Have at least one years' hands-on ICT experience directly relevant to an entry-level ICT Specialist role from your employment to date*.
Other Essential Requirements
A. Experience in analysing and resolving technical ICT issues
B. Proven ability to take ownership of tasks and deliver results in a complex technical situation
C. Demonstrated capability to communicate and work with others in a professional environment to reach a successful outcome.
D. Proven ability to overcome obstacles or setbacks to perform at a high level and meet customer/user needs.
