THE ROLE!

The client is a healthcare provider provides a spectrum of neuropsychiatric services to adults with a range of serious and enduring mental health needs such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's Diseases, as well as individuals with early onset dementia, schizophrenia, and mood disorders.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our client's team which will focus on creating a therapeutic environment by using recovery-oriented clinical practices and therapeutic interventions, which are evidence-based to enable and support patients to achieve their highest level of functioning and quality of life.

Key Duties:

  • To develop and to provide individual, family and group therapeutic interventions/strategies to patients/residents as required.
  • To carry a caseload and perform the duties required of a Basic Clinical/Counselling Psychologist as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To report to the Clinical Director and to liaise with the relevant Consultant/Psychiatrist on professional and administrative issues regarding his or her work as a member of the clinical teams.
  • To carry out research, especially in the area of service evaluation, regarding patients/residents attending the service.
  • To identify psychology needs in respect of the presenting patient population and to develop proposals for the Clinical Director as to how these needs could be met.
  • To manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence-based, care planning approach.
  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and to participate in teams/meetings/committees as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members.
  • To plan discharge or transfer of the patient/resident between services as appropriate.
  • To ensure that patients/residents and others are treated with dignity and respect.
  • To maintain records in accordance with service and professional standards. Be competent and up to date with regard to Clinical Governance and be familiar with conducting audits and analysing data.

Essential Criteria:

  • Must have a recognised third level degree or diploma (QQ1 level 8 equivalent) obtained with first or second class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours were obtained in that subject, and which is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
  • Must have a recognised postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health.
  • Must have at least 1-year satisfactory post-graduate experience in the area of professional psychology
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
