My client a leading public sector organisation based in Belfast is currently seeking a Full-Time Biomedical Scientist.
Hours: The hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week. The working hours would be Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm
Pay: £19.10 per hour
The role would be initially for 1 month but I expect this requirement to be extended until March 2026.
- HCPC registered BMS
- At least three years' experience;
- working in a transfusion related role at band 6 or above
- working with a Quality Management System including validation on new systems and incident management.
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist with validation and implementation of new systems and processes to NIBTS. Specifically, this post will focus on assisting with validation related to the implementation of a Blood Establishment Computer System (BECS).
2. Undertake and assist with incident management and investigation to meet the requirements of the NIBTS Quality Management System (QMS)
3. Assist cold chain compliance and audit to meet the requirements of the NIBTS QMS 4. Undertake routine Laboratory investigations in the department to which they are assigned. 2. Interpret, validate and report results ensuring abnormal results are conveyed to the requesting clinician in a timely manner. 3. Perform all necessary quality control procedures to ensure the analytical integrity of the results produced, identifying and implementing first line remedial action in the event of QC failure.
4. Follow department procedures for routine operational maintenance of laboratory analysers and equipment NIBTS:
5. Undertake preliminary fault finding of equipment and assays in the event of breakdown or when quality control procedures indicate loss of performance. Rectify the problem, if possible, or report to senior Biomedical Scientist.
6. Undertake method and laboratory instrument evaluation as directed by the Head/Deputy Head of Department.
7. Participate in research and development as directed by the Head/Deputy Head of Department or Laboratory Manager.
8. Rotate between all laboratories/ sections within the NIBTS as directed.
9. Manage own workload to ensure as far as possible that stated laboratory turnaround times are met for both urgent and routine requests.
10. Accurately record patient information and result data into laboratory IT systems as required. 11. Create and amend relevant laboratory documents e.g. SOP's, forms etc. as required.
12. Carryout Risk/COSHH assessments as required.
13. Understand and use the Laboratory's quality management system (Q-Pulse) to e.g. View documents and raise/record incidents.
14. Participate in and perform in audits as required
15. Assist with department stock control procedures and ensure efficient use of resources for area of responsibility.
16. Attend relevant departmental meetings
17. Follow professional code of conduct, performance and ethics (HCPC).
18. Work within and help maintain Laboratory Accreditation UKAS ISO 15189 and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) standards (as applicable)
19. Maintain good housekeeping ensuring the Department has a safe working environment
20. Post holder will manage and develop self in the field of laboratory medicine through completion of specialist portfolio (as applicable), attendance at short courses, participation in continual professional development (CPD) and "in-service" training and competence assessment. Will maintain a portfolio of personal development
21. Assist with the induction, supervision and training of Trainee Biomedical Scientists, laboratory support staff and students.
22. Abide by and keep up to date with all relevant NIBTS policies and procedures.
23. Participate in Recruitment and Selection of staff as required.
Essential Criteria
