Job description

My client a leading public sector organisation based in Belfast are currently seeking a Part-Time Cook.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 6am to 3.30pm

Pay: £12.21 per hour

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the preparation of high risk ready to eat foods, cooking, chilling, despatch and serving of all meals to the agreed standard recipes and standards required by the Catering Department.

  1. To cater for all dietary requirements and special functions as they may arise. The post holder may be required to provide advice to patients, clients and staff as well as other members of the catering team and other professional bodies following International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) and allergen regulations.

  1. Utilise staff, ingredients, materials and equipment in an efficient and effective manner to minimise wastage.

  1. Oversee Assistant/Trainee Cooks meals issued for quantity, quality and appearance.

  1. Comply with healthy eating policy and guidelines and ensure that healthy eating is promoted at all times; adhering to minimal nutrition standards.

  1. Comply with Food Standards Agency Allergen Regulations.

  1. Maintain records, electronic temperature control system and control, rotate and monitor stock advice when stock is running low or brand change.

  1. Ensuring the observance of Health and Safety Regulations including Hygiene Policies and Safe Procedures generally.

  1. Maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance as well as high standards of Food Safety Controls.

  1. Ensure the kitchen is kept clean at all times.

  1. Participate in development of Trainee Cooks; job shadowing and provide guidance to other new members of the catering team.

  1. Participate in ordering, checking and recording of food supplies to ensure procedures are adhered to at all times in relation to temperature, quality and quantity.

  1. Ensure food stocks are stored and rotated correctly.

  1. Ensure food production is in line with the numbers of meals ordered /served.

  1. Minimise waste throughout the food preparation and production processes and tracking systems and act on any findings.

  1. Participate in pursuit of continuous quality improvements associated with the provision of Catering Services.

  1. Write standard recipes, organise daily work plans - prioritising, cooking methods cooking times, cooking procedures, re-organisation of menus at short notice as/if the need arises.

  1. Contribute ideas on patient's menu, restaurant, coffee shop and restaurants and catering services in general.

  1. Arrangement of duty cooks schedules if required.

  1. The postholder may be required to deal with patient's enquiries and/or complaints and keep records.

  1. Ensure the proper use and operation of equipment and report defective equipment to supervisor or manager promptly.

  1. Ensure the correct cleaning, washing up and storage of crockery, equipment and other associated utensils within the department.

  1. On occasions, the post holder may be required to work in other areas of the Catering Service. It is not expected to be on a frequent or regular basis and would only take place after appropriate training and support is given where/if necessary.

  1. Any other duties in line with the post requirements.

Essential Criteria

City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2

OR

NVQ Level 2 Food Preparation &

Cooking

And

Level 2 Food Safety Certificate

Plus

6 months large scale industrial/commercial cooking experience

OR

5 years large scale

industrial/commercial cooking experience

And

Level 2 Food Safety Certificate
