My client a leading public sector organisation based in Belfast is currently seeking an Associate Psychologist to join their existing team.

Hours: The hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week.

Pay: £15.33 per hour

ROLE SUMMARY / MAIN PURPOSE:

To carry own caseload for individual manualised psychotherapeutic work and to support, contribute to and lead on psychotherapeutic groups as required and under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. On a weekly basis to provide support to qualified clinical psychologists to support and enhance the psychological care of service users in the Acute Mental Health Inpatient Centre (Belfast Health & Social Care Trust). To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. To help develop a means of capturing referrals to and the activity of the Acute Psychology Team in terms of the allocation of cases and weekly contact rates and other review, and service evaluation based work.

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities

Clinical

  • To undertake psychological assessments including the use of psychometric tools, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in client's care.
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems often based on or influenced by manualised interventions (e.g. CBT) under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
  • To assist in the coordination, running and leading of therapeutic groups under supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist
  • To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • To provide clinical work as required by the service at the direct guidance of the clinical lead and under clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist.
  • To assist practitioner psychologists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in the Belfast Trust.
  • To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines from a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
  • To provide a flexible service, the post-holder may be required to work outside usual hours should the need arise.
  • To travel to sites as appropriate and across the Trust when required.

Audit/Research

  • To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects as directed by clinical lead
  • To assist in clinically related administration as required and as relevant to the post.
  • To undertake data collection, analysis, and the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programs.
  • To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research, to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence-based practice, in individual work and work with other members of the service.

Management

  • To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service, as required.
  • To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed as required

Administration

  • To ensure that all work that is recorded is own work as required by procedures of the Acute Psychology Team
  • To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.
  • To work with local managers and professional colleagues to maximise efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery as directed and required
  • To comply with Acute Psychology Team, Board, Trust and Directorate policies and procedures.
  • To undertake specific administrative duties as required.

Essential Criteria

Experience of working with adults with mental health difficulties for at least 1 year

First or Upper Second Honours degree or other higher degree in psychology or equivalent accredited Conversion Course. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

Experience of delivering whole or parts of clinical interventions with individuals

Able to be flexible, adapt approach according to need, and innovate based on theoretical knowledge.

Able to provide & receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information in a highly emotive and sometimes hostile atmosphere, in a range of relationships and settings.

An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines and within a multidisciplinary team.

Able to plan, organise and prioritise own workload independently under direction of a senior psychologist.

Adherence to BPS/DCP Professional Guidelines regardless of membership.

Able to record and report on as required clinical information.

Competent in use of basic IT packages - word processing, e-mail and internet.

Graduate level knowledge of research design and methodology
