- Location: Omagh Hospital
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday, 8:30am-6pm, with two possible shifts-8:30am-4:30pm/10am-6pm on a rotational basis.
- Pay Rate / Salary: £12.71 p/h
- Contract Type: Temporary
About the Role
The Sterile Services Assistant supports the decontamination of medical devices within the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit. The role involves providing a high-quality decontamination and sterilisation service to HSDU and Endoscopy Decontamination Units. It would suit someone with relevant HSDU, hospital, assembly or production experience who can work accurately as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate work to a high standard in line with departmental procedures and standards.
- Collect, check and record reusable items and instruments from wards, theatres and endoscope units.
- Decontaminate, assemble, pack, wrap, barcode label and sterilise theatre trays and single instruments.
- Carry out endoscope decontamination, including manual cleaning, and operate Endoscope Washer Disinfectors.
- Use barcode IT systems for instrument and endoscope traceability.
- Operate and observe washer-disinfectors and autoclaves according to departmental procedures.
- Maintain stock levels, clean work surfaces and departmental machines, and comply with Health & Safety and COSHH requirements.
- Attend training, complete required courses and competency assessments, and participate in departmental procedures and quality management systems.
Essential Criteria
Band 2
- 5 GCSE grades A-C or equivalent, including English Language; or 1 year's experience working in an HSDU or hospital setting; or 2 years' experience in an assembly/production setting.
- Band 2 applicants must undertake a Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare and Social Care Support Skills (Decontamination) on completion of 1 year's service.
Band 3
- 2 years' experience working in an HSDU and a Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare and Social Care Support Skills (Decontamination) or equivalent.
- Flexibility to work between Trust sites if necessary.
- Experience working with IT systems and within a team.
- Awareness of Health & Safety and knowledge of HSDU services.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with Quality Management Systems.
