Staffline Recruitment Ireland is currently recruiting for a Principal Legal Officer on behalf of the Departmental Solicitor's Office, Commercial & Property Law Division.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial solicitor to join a supportive team and provide client-focused legal services across Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) Departments.
The successful candidate will provide legal advice and services in a public law context, with a particular focus on commercial transactions, grant funding, loan agreements, commercial contracts, company law and corporate governance.
The role will also involve developing effective client relationships, understanding client needs and priorities, and supporting the Assistant Director with the delivery and forward planning of the team's workload.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and services to Departmental clients in relation to commercial transactions
- Draft and negotiate grant funding agreements, loan agreements and security documents
- Advise client departments on grant funding and loan agreements, including variations, consents and releases
- Provide advice on all aspects of non-contentious commercial contracts, including drafting, negotiation, interpretation and enforcement
- Provide advice on ad-hoc commercial queries
- Advise on company law and corporate governance matters
- Assist Departments with informal and formal dispute resolution under commercial agreements
- Build and maintain effective client relationships and develop an understanding of client needs and priorities
- Attend regular client review meetings
- Support the Assistant Director with the delivery and forward planning of the team's workload
- Undertake case management, time recording and quality assurance procedures
- Participate effectively in team briefs, one-to-ones and training
- Contribute to the wider corporate life of the division and ongoing professional development
Essential Criteria
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Qualified Solicitor on the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland
- Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification transactional experience in commercial law
Additional Information
- Applicants must meet the essential criteria to be shortlisted
- This is a full-time post, however applications for part-time hours and alternative working patterns will be considered
- The position is based within the Commercial & Property Law Division, Departmental Solicitor's Office, Lanyon Plaza, Belfast
- The post is subject to CTC clearance
