Payroll Officer

Salary: €40,000 per annum
Contract: Fixed-term maternity cover, approximately 9-12 months

Location: Burnfoot
Hours: Full-time

About the Role

This is a key position within the team, responsible for accurately processing high-volume payrolls across both the UK and Republic of Ireland. The successful candidate will have strong technical payroll knowledge, excellent Excel skills and experience working with payroll and time management systems.

This opportunity would suit an experienced payroll professional who is confident managing competing deadlines and delivering accurate, compliant payroll services within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process high-volume weekly and monthly payrolls accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Manage payroll activity for employees across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
  • Ensure payroll calculations comply with current UK and Irish payroll legislation.
  • Process starters, leavers, salary changes, deductions, overtime, holiday pay and statutory payments.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and update payroll systems as required.
  • Review timesheets and data from the Time Management System before payroll processing.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee queries.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and prepare accurate payroll reports.
  • Liaise with internal teams to obtain and verify payroll information.
  • Support year-end payroll processes and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure all payroll information is handled securely.
  • Assist with payroll audits and provide supporting documentation when required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and reporting.

Essential Criteria

  • Approximately five years' experience in a payroll-focused role.
  • Proven experience processing high-volume payrolls.
  • Strong knowledge of UK and Republic of Ireland payroll legislation.
  • Experience using Sage Cloud Payroll for UK payroll processing.
  • Experience using Sage Micropay for Republic of Ireland payroll processing.
  • Experience maintaining and working with a Time Management System.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong data analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
