Job Title: HGV Mechanic

Location: Galway

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established organisation with a large commercial vehicle fleet, is seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic to join its maintenance team based in Galway. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified mechanic who is passionate about delivering high-quality workmanship and ensuring vehicles are maintained to the highest safety and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and repairs on a varied fleet of commercial and light vehicles.
  • Carry out vehicle inspections to identify faults and ensure compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
  • Complete repairs efficiently to minimise vehicle downtime while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Coordinate with approved external repair providers where specialist repairs are required.
  • Prioritise workload effectively, managing multiple repair and maintenance tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide regular updates on vehicle status and repair progress.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with workshop procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and health and safety legislation.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
  • Contribute to the overall reliability, efficiency, and availability of the company's vehicle fleet.

Requirements

  • A recognised qualification as an HGV Mechanic, or be in the third or fourth year of a recognised apprenticeship.
  • Proven experience servicing and repairing heavy goods vehicles, with strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.
  • Good working knowledge of vehicle diagnostics and modern workshop technology.
  • Competent IT skills, with the ability to maintain accurate service and maintenance records.
  • A full, clean Category C driving licence.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • HazChem certification or experience working with hazardous goods vehicles.
  • Experience maintaining mixed commercial vehicle fleets.
  • Knowledge of fleet maintenance management systems.
