Location: Based in Ireland with regular travel to the Castle Leslie Estate in Glaslough, Co Monaghan where the Foundation is based.

Foundation Overview
Utilising the 1,000 acres and historic structures of the Castle Leslie Estate, the Foundation was established to test nature-based solutions, social innovations and collaborative models to co-create better ways of living for people, place, and planet. These aims will be delivered through a range of projects which have been outlined in the recently published 100-year Manifesto which is currently in consultation with the local community.

Job Purpose
The Chairperson (Chair) will lead the Board of Directors to deliver the aims of the Leslie Foundation. They will work closely with the Chair of the Castle Leslie Preservation Trust and the leadership of Castle Leslie Estate. Following two decades of significant investment and a major restoration programme, the estate is now one of Ireland's finest luxury estates and a benchmark for heritage‑led hospitality and conservation.

Essential criteria

  • Senior leadership experience gained at board, executive or senior strategic level, demonstrating responsibility for organisational direction and major decision‑making.
  • Prior board or trustee service as a trustee, non‑executive director, or board member, with a clear understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of charity trustees.
  • Proven chairing and consensus‑building, including experience setting agendas, managing meetings, and guiding the Board to timely, well‑founded decisions.
  • Financial literacy and oversight capability, sufficient to interrogate management accounts, approve budgets, oversee reserves policy, and ensure financial accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills, with a collaborative working style in partnership with the Chief Executive, senior leadership, staff, and volunteers.
  • Able to commit to a minimum of 6 Board meetings per year and 4 days per month.
