Job Title: Waste Team Leader

Location: Mossley Mill

Duration: 3 Months

Hourly Rate: £16.90 (plus allowance £19.52)

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day operations of waste collection, street cleansing, recycling centres, and associated waste services.
• Support the Waste Supervisor in managing staff, vehicles, plant, equipment, rotas, attendance, performance, training, and operational resources.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, including risk assessments, COSHH, manual handling, accident reporting, and fleet safety requirements.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, completing reports within required timescales.
• Monitor service performance, complete inspections, cleanliness surveys, H&S assessments, and management reports.
• Engage with customers to maintain high service standards and resolve complaints promptly.
• Deputise for the Waste Supervisor as required.
• Support adverse weather operations, including gritting and flood response.
• Identify service improvements, monitor operational standards, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Conduct performance reviews, support staff development, and promote a positive team culture.
• Assist in improving recycling centre operations and liaise with external agencies where appropriate.
• Act as key holder for designated facilities when required.
• Work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends, emergencies, and additional hours as required.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C), including English and Maths (or equivalent), or
• At least 2 years' relevant operational experience where formal qualifications are not held.

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year's supervisory experience within waste management, refuse collection, street cleansing, recycling centres, or a similar operational environment.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including manual handling.
• Competent in Microsoft Office and Windows applications.

Other Requirements

• Full current driving licence or access to suitable transport to fulfil the duties of the role.
