Transport & Distribution Manager

Fixed-Term Contract | 3-6 Months

Full-Time Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and highly successful Irish retail and distribution business operating nationwide, is currently seeking an experienced Transport & Distribution Manager to join their operations team on a fixed-term contract basis.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced transport professional who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment and has a strong focus on operational efficiency, compliance, team leadership, and customer service delivery.

The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing transport operations, managing fleet compliance, leading driver performance, and ensuring high-quality delivery standards across a busy nationwide distribution network.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet & Compliance Management

  • Ensure full compliance with RSA regulations, transport legislation, tachograph requirements, and driver hours regulations.

  • Oversee fleet servicing schedules, preventative maintenance programmes, and CVRT compliance to minimise operational downtime.

  • Maintain accurate transport, driver, and fleet records, ensuring audit-ready compliance standards at all times.

  • Manage fleet-related costs including fuel usage, servicing, vehicle performance, and operational efficiencies.

Operations & Distribution Leadership

  • Lead and manage the transport and driver team on a day-to-day basis, including shift planning, performance management, and operational support.

  • Oversee route planning and delivery scheduling to maximise efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  • Monitor operational KPIs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement across transport and distribution functions.

  • Implement process improvements to enhance delivery performance, operational productivity, and service quality.

  • Coordinate effectively with warehouse and customer service teams to ensure seamless delivery operations.

Health & Safety

  • Lead all transport-related Health & Safety initiatives and ensure compliance with company and legislative standards.

  • Conduct vehicle inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments.

  • Deliver driver coaching and training in areas including manual handling, safe loading practices, compliance, and safe driving standards.

  • Investigate transport incidents, accidents, and near misses, implementing corrective actions where required.

Stakeholder & Customer Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for operational updates, escalations, and delivery-related issues.

  • Maintain strong communication across operational departments and support teams.

  • Handle complex customer delivery concerns professionally and efficiently while maintaining high service standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience within Transport, Distribution, or Logistics Management.

  • Strong knowledge of RSA compliance, transport legislation, tachograph regulations, and fleet operations.

  • Transport Management CPC qualification essential.

  • Full clean driving licence required. C Licence desirable.

  • Experience managing transport teams within a fast-paced operational environment.

  • Strong understanding of fleet management systems, routing software, and logistics planning tools.

  • Experience within furniture, retail, FMCG, or high-volume distribution environments advantageous.
