Role: Waste Resource Management Driver Category C
Location:
Environmental Services Depot, Antrim
Hours:
37 hours per week (shift work)
Pay Rate:
£14.13 (plus 18.5% allowance)

Job Purpose

To provide Waste Resource Management (WRM) Services including the collection of residual and recyclable waste, street cleansing, environmental cleansing, Household Recycling Centre duties and delivery of stores items in accordance with Council quality standards.

The postholder will also supervise crew members and ensure the safe and effective use of vehicles, equipment and resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete daily and weekly operational duties in line with schedules and Council standards.
  • Drive and operate Category C vehicles and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out routine vehicle checks, cleaning and defect reporting.
  • Supervise crew members and provide operational instructions where required.
  • Collect domestic and commercial waste and recyclable materials, ensuring containers are returned safely after collection.
  • Carry out street cleansing duties including sweeping, litter collection, emptying bins and removal of fly-tipped waste.
  • Support Household Recycling Centre operations and assist members of the public where required.
  • Ensure on-board cameras, communication systems and safety equipment are fully operational.
  • Maintain accurate records, safety checks and operational documentation.
  • Assist with delivery of Council communications and stores items.
  • Undertake alternative duties during severe weather conditions, including gritting and snow clearance.
  • Attend meetings and training relevant to the role.
  • Comply with all Council policies and procedures, particularly those relating to Health & Safety and Wellbeing.
  • Undertake the duties of a Waste Resource Management Operative when not engaged in driving duties.
  • Deliver high standards of customer service and communicate effectively with colleagues, managers and the public.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • Valid Category C+E driving licence
  • Full CPC Licence / Driver Qualification Card

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' experience operating with a Category C licence

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Basic IT skills, including use of TMS/GPS systems

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of health & safety procedures including manual handling and reversing assistance
  • Knowledge of waste collection, disposal and recycling operations
  • Understanding of traffic management requirements

Desirable Criteria

  • Minimum 2 years' experience within a waste management environment
  • Minimum 2 years' experience driving refuse collection vehicles
  • Minimum 1 year's experience operating HGV mechanical sweepers

Other Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Driver Assessment is required prior to appointment.
