Our client, a reward winning charity based in Belfast are currently seeking to recruit a Retail Assistant to join their team in Belfast.

Salary is £22,454 per year (pro rata)

Working 20 hours per week (may include weekends)

Fixed term contract for 1 year and then subject to funding.

Purpose of the position:

To assist in the day to day running of the charity shop, providing good customer care and achieving income targets in support of children in care.

To act in a professional, proactive capacity which contributes to the success of the charity and their relationship with their carers, children, staff, volunteers, funders, stakeholders, customers and the general public.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Shop Management

  • Assist in achieving agreed sales targets
  • Ensure excellence in terms of customer service and customer care.
  • Implement shop policies as required
  • Accept, sort and price stock and donations in accordance with organisational policies
  • Ensure standards of hygiene are maintained and the shop is clean and tidy at all times
  • Ensure the best possible presentation and display of goods for sale
  • Work alongside and provide support, where appropriate, to volunteers
  • Help maintain a high standard of visual merchandising and displays
  • Comply with all financial and administration procedures as set out by the Charity
  • Ensure all security procedures and policies are correctly followed
  • Ensure manual handling guidelines are followed
  • Maintain PR programme of internal and external events and social media activities, including planning and implementing advertising and promotional strategies and activities.
  • To respond to and manage customer complaints and enquiries.

General

  • Compliance with the charities governance procedures, policies and guidelines
  • Contribute to a positive working environment in which equality and diversity are valued and staff/volunteers are enabled to do their best

Other Duties

  • To undertake any other work as could be expected of a Retail Assistant, including covering gaps

in rotas.

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and contribute to the wider development of the charity

  • To work with the charity to publicise their charity shop and ensure all queries about the charities services are signposted to its main office
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to company information.
  • To adhere to the charities Code of Conduct for Staff and Volunteers and ensure a harmonious working environment in which the dignity of all employees, volunteers and children, carers, families and members of the public is respected

RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CHARITY

  • To be an active team member, supporting colleagues, prepared to receive support as necessary and contribute fully to team workload.
  • To participate in staff meetings as required.
  • To participate in staff development and review.
  • To attend training as identified and required in relation to personal and professional development.
  • To comply with the policies and procedures in place that meet with health and safety legislation.
  • To adhere to the charities Code of Conduct for Staff and Volunteers and ensure a harmonious working environment in which the dignity of all employees, volunteers and children, carers, families and members of the public is respected.
  • All staff members are required to adhere to the implementation of recording and monitoring procedures as determined by the organisation.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working in retail or customer service environment.
  • Experience of working with sales and targets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of customer service skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Experience of using social media.
  • Ability to use basic IT, word, excel, email.
  • A willingness to get stuck in and learn new skills.
  • Good written and numeric skills.
  • Ability to retain confidence and discretion.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and use own initiative to complete duties and tasks and manage work within a team.
  • Prepared to learn new skills.
  • Willingness to take managerial direction.
  • Ability to retain confidence and discretion.
  • A demonstrable commitment to equality of opportunity.
  • A current driving licence with access to a car. (Can be waived in the case of applicant whose disability prohibits driving, but who is able to organise suitable alternative arrangements).
