Our Client, A Large Public Sector Organisation based in Ballymoney require a Museum Officer to join their team.

Role : Museum Officer

Locations : Ballymoney

Hours of work : 37 hrs per week.

Hourly Rate : 1 -12 weeks £15.62 13 weeks + £17.59

Main Purpose of Post

  • Responsible for the delivery of the museums' collections plans to ensure that Council maintains UK Accreditation standard for collections. The Council's accredited collections contain circa 45,000 objects and substantial photographic archive of 1m images and are of local, national and international significance.
  • Responsible for the delivery of a programme of museum projects, exhibitions, events and publications to achieve the aims and objectives contained within the Culture, Arts and Heritage Strategy.
  • Responsible for providing access to the Council's museum collections.
  • Responsible for the day to day operation of the Council's museums. This includes Ballycastle Museum, Ballymoney Museum and Green Lane Museum and temporary museum galleries in Coleraine Town Hall and Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre.
  • Ensure that the department complies with all statutory and legislative requirements by adhering to these requirements and working in accordance with good governance and health and safety requirements.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Museum Service Development Manager to prepare and implement all museum policies and plans including collections development, documentation, learning and access, care and conservation, loans and fees and charges.
  • Responsible for the delivery of the Collections Management Plan including the documentation of collections, care and conservation maintenance and storage to maintain accreditation standard for all collections.
  • Assist in the development of the overall museum programme
  • Responsible for the implementation of the museum programme including the development and delivery of projects, exhibitions, events and publications.
  • Responsible for managing specific projects included grant aided projects. This includes project planning, managing suppliers and services, organising and chairing project meetings, administration, reports, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Assist with PR, social media & marketing for museum programmes and venues.
  • Support public access to the collections including providing training, advice and physical access for researchers, volunteers, community groups, schools and individuals.
  • Provide access to the collections by developing and delivering collections based talks and workshops to the public and special interest groups eg heritage groups, schools, community groups.
  • Support the Museum Community Engagement Officer to increase public access to the collections.
  • Responsible for installation and closure of seasonal museum facilities.
  • Assist in the day to day operation of all museum facilities including staff, volunteers, visitors, collection stores, galleries, opening and closing and health and safety.
  • Assist the MSDM to identify and secure external funding to develop the museum service
  • Prepare reports for MSDM and/or funders as appropriate
  • Contribute to the development, delivery, monitoring and review of Council's Cultural Services Strategy, associated business plan(s), services, facilities and programmes contained therein.
  • Assist the MSDM to manage resources, budgets and procurement including the timely delivery within budget of all projects and contracts.
  • Supervise museum volunteers & work placement programmes.
  • Assist the MSDM with implementation and maintenance of all systems for the effective management of risk, performance and Health & Safety.

Essential Criteria

Either;

  • A third level academic qualification
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience of museum collections management.

or;

  • 4 years' experience in museum collections management

Plus

  • At least one year's experience of coordinating and delivering interpretative projects including one or more of the following: exhibitions, publications and/or education materials. Experience of working with community groups.
