Our Client a large public sector organisation requires Financial Accounting Technician in Ballymena

Role: Financial Accounting Technician

Rate of Pay: £19.04 per hour

Location: All college campuses

Hours: 30 Hours

Duration: Temporary July & August

Main duties

  • To act as a member of the Finance Team for the College.
  • To promote the vision, mission and core values of the College.
  • To develop collaboration and promote co-operation with managers and staff across the College and in all financial matters within college.
  • To assist the Financial Accountant in developing, implementing and regularly reviewing the appropriate financial procedures in support of the College's agreed strategic direction.
  • To promote effective communication within the Finance Team, across the College and with all stakeholders
  • Assist the Financial Accountant with the development and review of finance procedures, and the subsequent upkeep of the College's finance procedures manual.
  • Review, on a continuing basis, the procedures within the department including the development of suitable training programmes for new and existing staff for the dissemination of these procedures.
  • Provide initial systems training to Finance Team, budget holders and other staff.
  • Provide advice on finance related issues to all sections of the College and auditors
  • Act as line manager for the Accounts Payable Officer, Accounts Receivable Officer, Credit Control Officer, Cashier and Purchasing Officer
  • Ensure that the work of the finance department is adequately planned, supervised and performed at a high level of efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure uniformity of standards and practice between sections and campuses.
  • System administrator for the College accounting system and responsibility for contact with support as required
  • Daily QLS interface reconciliation - fees and payments across all College sites reconciled to accounting system entries
  • Identification and correction of errors resulting from QLS interface reconciliation
  • Maintenance of the transfer/withdrawal/cancellations table and associated paperwork
  • Processing all credits and refunds for students
  • Liaison with Accounts Receivable Officer and Credit Control Officer with respect to all other error corrections required and processing these on a timely basis
  • Responsibility for taking legal action on overdue debt as required, including attendance at small claims court and liaising with legal representatives
  • Review of accounts payable payment runs
  • Submission of all BACS and DD files for the finance department
  • Review of sundry invoicing § Month end close off procedures for the accounting system and control account reconciliations for accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • VAT Returns
  • Prepare estimates or statistical returns as required by the management or external agencies.
  • Liaise with the College's internal auditor in the continuous review of accounting procedures and matters of good practice.
  • Liaise with the College's external auditors and other agencies as appropriate.
  • Liaise with other teams within the Institute, as is necessary, to maintain the efficient and effective working within the Finance Team.
  • To liaise with Financial Accountant/Management Accounting Technician regarding financial information and systems.
  • To undertake other appropriate duties as required by the Financial Accountant
  • Undertake on-going continuous professional development to ensure a quality service.
  • To contribute to the quality systems and teams within the College as required.

Essential Criteria:

Applicants must have successfully completed the professional examinations and have full membership of one of the following Accountancy Bodies:

The Institute of Accounting Technicians in Ireland;

Association of Accounting Technicians;

or equivalent.

OR

Applicants must have had two years experience in the last five years of working within a finance office. Experience must include at least two of the following:

  • General ledger
  • Accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable
  • Purchasing
  • Payroll

AND

Applicants must have held a post of responsibility supervising staff (at least one person) within a finance office within the last three years. (To include full range of supervision - work planning, discipline, training)

  • Proficient in double entry book-keeping
  • Experience of using a sophisticated integrated accounts package
  • Experience of managing, leading and motivating staff
  • Ability to analyse data, propose solutions and communicate to others
  • Experience of writing robust procedures
  • Ability to manage own time/work and time/work of others in order to meet targets and deadlines
