Our client, an early years organisation are currently seeking to recruit an Early years Assistant to join their team based in Belfast.
Pay rate is £11.75 per hour plus holiday pay.
The position is temporary until the end of March however there is a good chance that it may be extended.
Hours: 30hrs per week (Mon-Thu 9am-4pm & Fri 9-1)
Main Duties:
- To provide a safe, stimulating and varied programme of play and learning opportunities for children participating in Early Years Services.
- To promote the holistic development of children and to work in the interest of children at all times, while ensuring the maintenance and improvement of a welcoming child centred environment.
- To contribute to the development of plans and activities aimed at targeting specific learning needs of key children in the Developmental Programme for 2-3 Year Olds, Play2Learn and any other programme required to work in.
- To promote and encourage targeted parental engagement within the programmes, develop supportive relationships with parents/carers and carry out home visits when required.
- To ensure good standards of hygiene and safety and observe all relevant
health and safety rules and guidelines.
- To ensure confidentiality of information relating to children and families at all times.
- To comply with the clients policies and procedures and be aware of and work in accordance with relevant legislation at all times.
- To participate in induction and training programmes, meetings and supervision as required.
Criteria:
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

An NVQ II in Early Years or Childcare or equivalent. Or
Currently studying for An NVQ II in Early Years or Childcare or equivalent. Or
Currently unqualified but willing to commit to start studying for an NVQ II in Early Years or Childcare or equivalent within 1 year.
A minimum of one years experience working with young children aged 0-4 years and families.
Experience of carrying out observations, recording and planning
Experience of working in a Sure Start environment
Experience of working with vulnerable families

Knowledge of child development
An understanding of the importance of parental involvement in the early years
Knowledge of the Sure Start Programme and its ethos, practices and procedures
Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding practices and procedures

SKILLS & APTITUDES |
A good standard of written and oral communication skills
Competent IT skills and proficient use of Microsoft Office, Internet and email.

Aged 18 or over
An ability to work flexible hours and locations ie working Saturdays occasionally, covering other programmes.
