Overview

The Data Engineer (Assistant Principal Officer - APO) role within the Data Architecture function is a new role in the Office of the Chief Information Officer of An Garda Síochána. The Data Engineer (APO) will assist the Head of Data Architecture in the functional implementation and maintenance of the overarching Data Strategy and relevant Data Policies (e.g. Data Protection, Data Security) for the organisation.

The role will involve prioritising and co-ordinating work in line with business needs, collaborating with members of the Data Architecture function as well as ICT, GSAS and the general business for the creation of production-ready solutions for automatic or semi-automatic data ingestion, transformation and enrichment.

Working in strict collaboration with the Data Scientist and the Data Architecture function at large, the Data Engineer will design and support the implementation of data solutions and platforms, elevating pre-production data-driven applications (e.g. AI/Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics prototypes) to production-ready capabilities for the business. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Automatic data ingestion and transformation for follow-on analysis, reporting and dashboards;
  • Assemble large, complex data to satisfy business requirements;
