Job description

Our Client, A Large Public Sector Organisation based in Ballymoney require a Climate Change Lead Officer to join their team.

Role : Climate Change Lead Officer

Location : Ballymoney

Hours of Work : 37 hrs per week - Monday to Friday

Hourly Rate : 1 - 12 weeks £18.36 13 weeks + £20.31

Main Duties :

  • To support the leadership, co-ordination, management and development of the Council's response to the challenges of climate change mitigation and adaptation to achieve net zero targets, including research, development, and performance management.
  • To ensure Council meets its statutory and strategic objectives in relation to climate change across the organisation.
  • To manage allocated financial and physical resources assigned to the climate change and resilience activity, including the preparation of an annual estimate, and the management of approved budgets.
  • Co-ordinate, lead and chair the Climate Action Team (CAT) within Council.
  • To develop effective collaborative relationships between Council and relevant external stakeholders, including government departments, researching, developing, implementing and monitoring actions and initiatives.
  • Co-ordinate and lead economically advantageous Borough wide projects where economies of scale assist Council and its stakeholders to secure emission reductions and mitigate against climate change.
  • Collaborate with external funding sources and Councils internal funding team to identify funding opportunities for Council climate and resilience activities and support the preparation of funding bids to the appropriate bodies.
  • Ensure that the department complies with all statutory and legislative requirements by adhering to these requirements and working in accordance with good governance and health and safety requirements.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely and effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all areas relating to the work of the Council.

Essential Criteria :

  • A degree level qualification, or equivalent, in Environmental Management, Renewable Technologies, Environmental Sustainability or relevant discipline.

And

  • Demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, a minimum of two years' experience to include:
  • development and delivery of project strategy;
  • leading multi-stakeholder projects;
  • change management processes;
  • effective internal and external stakeholder engagement and partnership working; and
  • analysis, interpretation and presentation of data based evidence.

Plus

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications to include: Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of climate change issues and necessary mitigations.

  • A full current driving licence (Category B, valid in the UK) and access to a vehicle that will enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post OR have access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post.
  • The nature of the post requires flexible working eg work outside normal office hours, including evening meetings and weekends as required.
